Site Glamour Contest

And now for something completely different: I’ve entered my site in a contest 8O
I’ve entered several pixel/dolling contests and I often post my work on various forums for people to give C/C on. But I’ve never, during all these years online, had the guts to put my actual site up for reviews and judging. Until now that is.

What I liked about this contest was that it’s not only judged by design skills but also by your writing, coding and just quality in general. It’s like an “overall awesomeness” contest :P And the prizes are great too, really great!

I’m slightly nervous now to be honest. Like I said I’ve never done this before. And one part of the contest is to write an article about something. I’m not the best writer, especially not in English, so that will be a challenge. But I think it will be good for me to step out of my comfort zone and do something like this. Maybe I’m finally beginning to grow some backbone :D

It’s hosted by Danya at AmourChaleur.com, voting starts on October 1st and you all should totally join! 8) I challenge you! *pokes*

Pretty ponies

I’ve added a new page to the pixelart section: Ponies!! :yay:

I never played with dolls as a child, I didn’t like them, but I loved My Little Pony! I had like 80 of them + the Dream Castle and the Stable and a million other related stuff. I still have everything packed away in my basement. I’ve been thinking about taking it all up and clean it and maybe start collecting ponies as a hobby, but I don’t really have the space for it.

I actually finished the first pixel ponies a whole month ago and posted them on the Qbee Bee*Bee’S – and ended up making a whole bunch of custom ponies for the lovely members there ;) So it’s not until now I’m finished making all the characters from Generation 1 that I wanted to do.
Do you recognize any of them?

The top left one is Trickles anyway, she was my favourite pony when I was little

Check out the rest of the ponies at their own page!
(yes, they’re all “adoptable” :) )

Inglorious Basterds

I posted this on my Dreamwidth some time ago, but figured I might as well post it here too.

I’ve been to the  movie theatre for the first time in 2 years(!). Me and Markus saw the new Tarantino movie Inglorious Basterds. And it was AWESOME! :yay:

Inglorious Basterds

“In Nazi occupied France, and a young Jewish refugee Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the slaughter of her family by Colonel Hans Landa. Narrowly escaping with her life, she plots her revenge several years later when German war hero Fredrick Zoller quickly takes an interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she now runs. With the promise of every major Nazi officer in attendance, the event catches the attention of the “Basterds”, a group of Jewish-American guerilla soldiers led by the ruthless Lt. Aldo Raine. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl’s plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history.”

As a whole the movie was crazy and incredibly funny, if you like your humour black that is. I thought it was funny at least. The characters were exaggerated just enough to make it comical, but not too much to make it stupid. Like Brad Pitt’s constantly wrinkled forehead and broad Tennessee dialect. In every scene he looks like he needs to take a shit. His facial expression alone was enough to make me giggle sometimes :P
And in true Tarantino style it was violent. In fact it was very violent, in a creepy non-graphic way. But it was very raw and… strangely real sometimes. Like one scene when Eli Roth’s character beats a German officer to death with a baseball bat. It’s not bloody or gory at all, but very… in your face. It looked so real, I actually shuddered when I saw it.
Historically it fails though, it’s not correct by a long shot. But I don’t think it’s supposed to be either. It’s just entertaining. It’s a comical play with ideas, nothing more and nothing less. They actually twisted the history to the better if you ask me.

The thing that impressed me the most had to be Christoph Waltz, the actor playing Hans Landa. He was nothing but amazing! 8O He made the character so disgustingly creepy and insane and just… He outshone Brad Pitt completely, that might give you an idea. Heck, he outshone everyone! And during the movie he spoke all in all 4 languages. How is it possible that he has been allowed to lurk around fairly unnoticed in Germany all these years!? My guess is that we will see a LOT more from him in the future. At least I hope so.

Speaking of the languages, it also impressed me that Tarantino dared to use the original languages. The French speak French, the Germans speak German and the Americans/Englishmen speak English just the way it should be.
In most Amercian movies they only speak English, even if the story is supposed to take place in Italy or something. And that always bothers me, if the story takes place in a non-english country then why is everybody speaking English!? Kind of a turn-off. I rather watch a movie with subtitles that is authentic than having everybody speaking English when they really shouldn’t.
But even if Inglorious Basterds is totally unreal in other aspects, at least the languages are in order. I’m impressed.

It was a great movie all together. Probably one of the best Tarantino has ever made in my opinion. Both me and Markus have been dropping quotes from the movie ever since we saw it.

Oh, and Donny Donowitz aka Eli Roth = pure sex
Yes, I said it. And I stand by it.

Autumn elf

Hey look! A new layout :D
I’ve had that pixel tattoo up for so long I’m sick of it. I’ve used it for two layouts now so all in all it’s been up since March. The grin on the skull was getting on my nerves… seriously.

Time for a change, and I really wanted something hand painted and natural this time. Not pixelart. And I wanted something to celebrate the autumn, my favourite time of the year.
So… I made this. An elf maiden, dressed in green and autumn leaves, accompanied by a raven.

Karin Persson - autumn elf

There is the original drawing. Made with coloured pencils on cheap printer paper.
I think this might actually be the first time I’ve ever drawn an elf  Really strange since I’m such a fantasy nerd… Guess I just never remember to put pointy ears on my humans *lol*
But better late than never I guess. And I have been reading a lot of Tolkien lately, that might explain it.
