Inglorious Basterds

I posted this on my Dreamwidth some time ago, but figured I might as well post it here too.

I’ve been to the  movie theatre for the first time in 2 years(!). Me and Markus saw the new Tarantino movie Inglorious Basterds. And it was AWESOME! :yay:

Inglorious Basterds

“In Nazi occupied France, and a young Jewish refugee Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the slaughter of her family by Colonel Hans Landa. Narrowly escaping with her life, she plots her revenge several years later when German war hero Fredrick Zoller quickly takes an interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she now runs. With the promise of every major Nazi officer in attendance, the event catches the attention of the “Basterds”, a group of Jewish-American guerilla soldiers led by the ruthless Lt. Aldo Raine. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl’s plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history.”

As a whole the movie was crazy and incredibly funny, if you like your humour black that is. I thought it was funny at least. The characters were exaggerated just enough to make it comical, but not too much to make it stupid. Like Brad Pitt’s constantly wrinkled forehead and broad Tennessee dialect. In every scene he looks like he needs to take a shit. His facial expression alone was enough to make me giggle sometimes :P
And in true Tarantino style it was violent. In fact it was very violent, in a creepy non-graphic way. But it was very raw and… strangely real sometimes. Like one scene when Eli Roth’s character beats a German officer to death with a baseball bat. It’s not bloody or gory at all, but very… in your face. It looked so real, I actually shuddered when I saw it.
Historically it fails though, it’s not correct by a long shot. But I don’t think it’s supposed to be either. It’s just entertaining. It’s a comical play with ideas, nothing more and nothing less. They actually twisted the history to the better if you ask me.

The thing that impressed me the most had to be Christoph Waltz, the actor playing Hans Landa. He was nothing but amazing! 8O He made the character so disgustingly creepy and insane and just… He outshone Brad Pitt completely, that might give you an idea. Heck, he outshone everyone! And during the movie he spoke all in all 4 languages. How is it possible that he has been allowed to lurk around fairly unnoticed in Germany all these years!? My guess is that we will see a LOT more from him in the future. At least I hope so.

Speaking of the languages, it also impressed me that Tarantino dared to use the original languages. The French speak French, the Germans speak German and the Americans/Englishmen speak English just the way it should be.
In most Amercian movies they only speak English, even if the story is supposed to take place in Italy or something. And that always bothers me, if the story takes place in a non-english country then why is everybody speaking English!? Kind of a turn-off. I rather watch a movie with subtitles that is authentic than having everybody speaking English when they really shouldn’t.
But even if Inglorious Basterds is totally unreal in other aspects, at least the languages are in order. I’m impressed.

It was a great movie all together. Probably one of the best Tarantino has ever made in my opinion. Both me and Markus have been dropping quotes from the movie ever since we saw it.

Oh, and Donny Donowitz aka Eli Roth = pure sex
Yes, I said it. And I stand by it.

Autumn elf

Hey look! A new layout :D
I’ve had that pixel tattoo up for so long I’m sick of it. I’ve used it for two layouts now so all in all it’s been up since March. The grin on the skull was getting on my nerves… seriously.

Time for a change, and I really wanted something hand painted and natural this time. Not pixelart. And I wanted something to celebrate the autumn, my favourite time of the year.
So… I made this. An elf maiden, dressed in green and autumn leaves, accompanied by a raven.

There is the original drawing. Made with coloured pencils on cheap printer paper.
I think this might actually be the first time I’ve ever drawn an elf  Really strange since I’m such a fantasy nerd… Guess I just never remember to put pointy ears on my humans *lol*
But better late than never I guess. And I have been reading a lot of Tolkien lately, that might explain it.

Dreamwidth anyone?

A few months ago I found out about this new blogging platform Dreamwidth.
And I was intrigued.
100 years ago I had a LiveJournal account, but that was when I first started exploring this new Internet thing and as the n00b I was I never really managed to figure out how to use it or modify it to my liking. I started learning html and began building my own websites instead.

But in May I got hold of a DW invite and made an account just for the heck of it, and to my own surprise I’ve actually been using it!
I like having a free and simple place to post, a place that is as private as I want it to be and where I’m free to post just about anything without a care in the world.
Now, of course I could make password protected posts here – but I don’t want to. I don’t like seeing password posts on blogs and I don’t want my visitors to be slapped in the face with them either. I could also make protected posts at my Swedish blog – but since many friends, co-workers and such are lurking around there they would only start pestering me with questions.
And since I don’t want to scare my visitors away any more than necessary I don’t want to write just anything here. A DW is perfect for those random boring stuff that nobody cares about but me. Like those silly memes I love doing, random photos and videos, memories and dreams etc. Sometimes you just want to write things down, you know? Just for me, not for anyone else’s amusement. It’s like my online sanctuary, I just discovered how nice it is to have one :)

My old LJ is still around, I remember my old username and password so I could use it, but I think I won’t. I’m very happy with my DW account.

Why Dreamwidth and not LJ?

  1. No ads. This is a huge turn-on for me. Most free blogging services comes with an anormous set of ads, including LJ. But DW doesn’t have any ads anywhere. Me like!
  2. It’s new and fresh. On LJ there are millions of old dead accounts and communities dating back to when the site first opened  *coughminecough*
  3. Every single time I’ve found out that someone has stolen my graphics/pixels/etc it has been some kid on LJ, so for me LJ = a bunch of clueless brats  Of course nothing says that DW won’t house thieves too, and there are lots of nice people on LJ. But I’m still a little put off I’m afraid.
  4. I think it’s pretty, much more so than LJ I’m afraid. Just the fact that it’s red and pink did it for me *lol*

Is anyone else using it?

I’m Gabonica over there, feel free to add me if you know me from somewhere around the net. And I have 2 invite codes if anyone want them :)

Schenza sketch

Karin Persson - Schenza sketch
This is Schenza, a character I made up when I was little. Not as an imaginary friend but more like a muse, in lack of better words. I probably have made up a million little stories about her and whenever I’m asked to make a character in games and such I make her. If I was into role-playing I’d play her all the time. I used her name as my online alias when I was a teenager.
But I’ve never been able to draw her, every attempt has failed. I have no “artistic feeling” for human anatomy so I find it difficult drawing faces and characteristic features. And I have a clear vision of what she looks like, so I get frustrated when I can’t translate the image in my head to the paper. Until now!

I was just sketching random stuff while watching tv and all of a sudden this appeared, and it is her! This is Schenza, this is what she looks like :D
Now I’m just afraid to do anything with it because I’m certain that I will ruin it if I try tracing it and adding colours and such…

Anyone else have a character like this, following you around in your head? Or am I just crazy? *LOL*
